Winter Collection 2005 by Daniel Vincent

Am I really going to talk about a CD I was sent last year and haven’t yet reviewed? Yes, since Daniel went to the trouble to send it to me (as well as providing me with my new Logo!) so I should at least comment.

Winter Collection is both a retrospective and a teaser. It includes four tracks from an imaginary comeback by Onion Jack – a band I reviewed a few times. They are instrumental numbers full of texture and dreams.

There are also four tracks of Daniel Vincent solo with an acoustic guitar recorded in one take. Miracle In You and Go From Here are both songs I’ve heard before with Onion Jack. I am very glad to hear these versions because I did hint that I was enamoured by Onion Jack’s songs – more so than the mood/instrumental pieces. I have asked Daniel if he will do a solo album – he laughed but I hope the idea takes root.

Now the teasers. Two tracks are by Karma Pilot (Daniel’s latest incarnation). Take The Next Step is an instrumental with lush, long keyboard notes (who remembers the Mellotron!) while the The Last Place On Earth is ambient electronica. I shall say no more because I will be reviewing Karma Pilot, in their full incarnation, shortly.

You can download this album and other at http://fakemoon.homelinux.com:6969 in FLAC or MP3 format using Bit Torrent.

  1. The four Onion Jack tracks are actually studio outtakes from the “Imaginary Comeback Special” sessions. The album was released via mrsvee.com in late 2004 and sunk without trace :-)

I’ll send you copy of the OJ stuff you’re missing for your personal collection, maybe things will make a bit more sense then :-)
