At first I thought of The White Stripes with full band backing and more of a propensity to rock out. But there is something even better about the voice, and I finally figured that i could hear echoes of Rob Turner of the MC5. I normally try to avoid comparisons but in this case I think it implies just how good this band sound. There are also some very tasty guitar licks that would have graced 70s Detroit's finest albums.
Breakup Breakdown have nervous energy and pop sensibility. You need a band who know how to get angry about "she wears her socks to sleep" (Dracula). You need a band that makes you bounce off the walls in a club. There is a disappointing (to my ears) untitled fourth track - but I'll forgive them for that. Look, let's face it, The White Stripes and The Strokes have gone off the boil - if you want to taste the excitement of a new twist on guitar music with melody then here it is waiting for you.
