Brown Eye Superfly

Any Other Way March 2004

This Glasgow based four-piece have managed to give me a real surprise. I never thought I would be listening to funk/soul again (at least for longer than it took me to reach for an off switch). The thought of Paul Weller or Simply Red still makes my stomach turn. Of course, what Brown Eye Superfly are doing is something different. This is no 'soft soul sensation' but a hard guitar-driven energy fest with a dirty edge. The lyrics are about disappointments in love and everything I like to hear songs about. The vocals are raw and exciting. Alternative music of the highest order.

If you see the name Brown Eye Superfly on the support bill for a concert you are going to then get there early because this band will be great live. Better still, find out where they are playing, go and see them, dance and sweat a bit and then you can cool down with a few drinks afterwards - whether you want to see the main band or not.
