Fell City Girl

Swim June 2006

A slow burner this one. I got the Fell City Girl EP Swim along with the Dresden Dolls album a while ago. I knew the name, knew they were from Oxford, where I'm living now, and wanted to listen to them. I think I expected them to be something different (much louder guitars or something). I put the EP to one side to be considered later.

Well, I'm obviously no music journalist - I'm not paid to reach a crass conclusion within seven days about new releases. I can just let music take it's time in getting to me. Gradually they have been getting under my skin until I just have acknowledge them. Are they good? As good as The Cure on Three Imaginary Boys. It's unashamedly emotional Indie music and it starts where Coldplay finished in their best early work. If you are looking for a band who write and play songs that make you swoon then listen to Fell City Girl. And the loud guitars are there, but only used when the songs need it.
