Superfine

Unsound Oct 2003

These boys have been featured on ‘Buffy The Vampyre Slayer’ so I have to give them a good listen. A warning is the word ‘frigging’ in Soft and Beautiful. Are they scared of the Parental Warning sticker? 7 Degrees does all ‘emo’ but actually has a good chorus. Things brighten up with Masters of Fuc with more bite to both the lyrics and guitar but the semi-spoken bridge section is disappointing. Naked In All The Wrong Places rocks despite a strange falsetto backing vocal. Superfine are a good band but not spectacular – the vocals lack the ‘wow’ factor and the songs drop into a melodic cliché too often. This album has some good moments but it doesn’t stand out from the crowd for me.
