Optimism Is Not A Curse Sep 2004

I just can't get my head around this one. I've been listening to an earlier EP and the album demos for months while driving around. I absolutely love Jesus Son - it's like the Stooges gone electronic (anyone else hear Add N to X's version of I wanna Be Your Dog?). The other songs just don't do it for me - sort of like an 80s synth band. Having said that I do like Try Harder as something in the region of American Emo. So, beyond me, except for one song really. I think I may be wrong though - there's a lot of tunes that sit perfectly in the genre of South/Death Cab For Cutie. They will probably be huge in America if they ever get over there, because they do sound like they have something special - but not really for me.
